The Bible asks humanity this question - "For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? What does it mean to lose your soul and how does this happen? We lose our soul when we choose a path other than that which God has ordained, when we decide to fulfill our own desires and our own pursuits and choose a way without considering what God requires of our lives. The Bible says that "There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end leads to destruction" (Proverbs 16:25) We may think we know what is best for our lives, but only our Creator, the one who made us and knows every thought and even every hair on our head, knows what is best for us. We have been rebellious children, choosing sinful and displeasing lives rather than following God and submitting to His purpose for our lives. We have purposely broken the laws that He has written on our conscience. Conscience means "with knowledge", which means that every time we have broken these laws, we have done it with the knowledge that it is wrong. Every time we have lied (even the smallest lie), stolen, hated our neighbour, committed adultery (even in our minds), worshipped other gods (even our careers or our family), and used His name as a curse word, we have broken His law. The Bible says that "the wages of sin is death but, the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord". God loved us so much that He did not want all of human kind to have to die for their sins, which is a righteous judgement on those who purposely disobey. Instead, He sent His only Son into the world to take our punishment and die for our crimes. Jesus took our place. He was beaten, mocked and spat at, and brutally crucified on a cross for you. When Jesus rose from the dead, He took with Him the keys to Death and Hell so that any person of any age, sex, and race who believes in Him would know freedom, purpose, and eternal life. The Bible says "For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:7-8 You can have a relationship with your Father in Heaven. All you need to do is recognize that you have sinned and broken God's laws and ask Jesus to be Lord of your life. He does not promise that everything will always be easy but, He does promise that you will know freedom from sin, abundant life, and the transforming power of His Holy Spirit living in you. |
Romans 10:9 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." |
